I recently flew Virgin America from JFK to San Francisco. Before I go further, I must say this:
Do not EVER take a domestic flight out of JFK on evenings around 6:30 or 7 pm.
Why?
That’s when all the overseas flights leave.
So?
Your flight WILL be delayed. Lots of airplanes, limited runways. Our flight was delayed FOR TWO HOURS.
After two hours trapped on the ground, no coach class flight will be dreamy.
Here’s the deal -
The lighting is nice. Purple or pink, not that garish white stuff.
The seats are nice and new and have both a normal outlet to plug in computers AND a USB outlet at every seat. That alone would be reason to fly them again.
They’ve got a great interactive screen for entertainment.
But they’re still working out the food ordering kinks. You should be able to use the touch screen to order whatever you want anytime during the flight. The choices are limited and, in some cases, downright weird (the two dinner meal choices were a Muffaleta or fruit/cheese plate. Huh?).
Once ordered, the food took FOREVER. But not as long as it took to retrieve luggage at SFO.

I don’t know why anyone didn’t think of this sooner. They call them “flasks on the fly” – Pocket Shots of gin, rum, vodka, whiskey or tequila. In a plastic pouch. Cost: $2. No joke. I’m wondering if it’s under 3 ounces so we can carry them on long flights….
Kind of a genius idea, really.
