My shoe obsessed friends and I have been bemoaning the lack of shoes this season. We’re not adverse to plopping down the Amex for a shoe we love, but there’s no shoe we love. None. Nada. Zip. I’ve searched from Bergdorfs to DSW and have come up empty handed. And footed. But on a recent trip to Houston, I trolled the Galleria with my friend Gail (not be confused with Oprah’s best friend Gail) and found these at Steve Madden. In a word – gorgeous. They look like $900 shoes – and we should know. The stacked heel has perfect proportions as does the toe box; there’s no seam on the side. All signs of an expensive shoe. For just $80.
It’s no secret that I love lighting. Lamps, to me, are like the shoes of a room. They make or break it, just like shoes make or break an outfit. This is my latest favorite, discovered at the NY Gift show in the Droog booth. It’s by Dick van Hoff for Makkum and is unfortunately, at $695, a bit pricey (thank you, Mr. Euro). But still gorgeous to look at.
I’ve been traveling a lot this year. My accountant always asks me to keep track of my days spent out of town, and as of 9/1 the number was 81. Needless to say, I’ve got a list of musts for making air travel more comfortable when flying, especially on long trips. Must #1 – ear plugs or Bose headphones for blocking out noise. Must #2 – muji eye mask. Hands down, the best one I’ve used. And my brand new Must #3 – this inflatable foot rest from Magellan. Sexy? Hardly. But a footrest is really what makes business class so much better than coach (that, and a nice glass of free wine). Take a sleeping pill, put your feet up, and call it a flight.
