As a swimmer, I quickly found out that exercising while on the road was not going to be easy. Sure, hotels have pools but they are almost never long enough to actually do a proper swim workout or if they are the right length, they are usually outdoors in warm climates and the water is too warm (one exception: The Four Seasons Hualani, 25 meters and perfect temperature). So I reluctantly became a treadmill person. At first I was bored out of my mind but then I was told about iTrain – workouts you download into an iPod. The treadmill workouts rock. They’re led by Grace Lazenby who, at first, I thought was insane but since I’ve seen major improvements and made some serious progress I will just say that while she *might* be insane in her expectations her workouts work. And all I need is my gear and a treadmill, which can be found basically anywhere. And at the aforementioned Hualani, that treadmill was outdoors. Heaven!

I’m lucky. My travel has taken me to some gorgeously warm destinations lately. Unfortunately I need some sort of coat to get me to the not-so-warm airport, and keep me warm when I return with my rocking tan but have to wait for a cab. And wait and wait. In the cold.
So I dug out this jacket I bought last year for my Kilimanjaro climb. This specific one is by Cloudveil and called Bivouac. I believe it’s discontinued, but still available online from various retailers (just google it). The point is that it is super warm, and VERY compact – you roll the jacket up into the hood for easy packing once you get to the airport. Or you can use it as a pillow on the plane. Either way you’re not lugging a bulky coat around.
