And it doesn’t look anything like Donald Judd. That was the rumor, you know. That Calvin was so into Judd, collected Judd, and that his collection would be “Judd inspired.” For background – this furniture collection has allegedly been in the works for, oh, at least 7 years. Now it’s finally here and, I am sad to say, underwhelming. Even a bit Armani Casa-inspired. See for yourself -
To me, holiday weekend in town = opportunities to see many movies. Here are two I saw that you need to see IMMEDIATELY:
1. Tropic Thunder. Believe it or not, Tom Cruise – Tom Cruise!!! – steals the show. And people CLAPPED at the end of the movie. A tough NYC crowd CLAPPED. That’s all I’m going to say.
2. The Wackness. Takes place the summer of 1994 in NYC. Killer soundtrack (Tribe Called Quest anyone?) a fabulous performance by Ben Kingsley and lots and lots of dope smoking.
Which leads me to the topic of Pineapple Express, a movie I couldn’t sit through. I’m not quite understanding what all the rave reviews are about. The first 30 minutes of the movie are absolutely hilarious. The crucifix-shaped joint will go down in history (and there’s a youtube video that demonstrates how to create your very own). But there’s a point in the movie when things get violent (for real) and everything just gets …. weird and incredibly un-funny. Wait for it on DVD. Or Hulu.
